Glulam Beams
The SuperHub Meerstad is defined by its curved glulam beams, which form the primary structural system and create the building’s sweeping roof profile. These laminated timber arches span between perimeter supports, working mainly in compression while efficiently distributing loads to the ground. Secondary steel elements and connections stabilize the system and handle lateral forces, allowing the curved timber structure to remain lightweight while achieving long, open spans.

Trusses
The Maggie’s Oldham Cancer Care Centre is structured around an exposed glulam timber frame that forms both the primary support and the architectural expression of the building.
Vertical timber posts are paired with diagonal bracing members that create a triangulated system, stiffening the frame against lateral loads while allowing large, open internal spaces. The roof structure is also expressed as a layered timber grid that distributes loads back to the perimeter frame, creating a lightweight but highly stable structural system defined by repetition and clear load paths.

The Schonbuch Tower
The Schönbuch Tower uses an exoskeletal timber structure made of inclined, intersecting columns that act as both vertical support and diagonal bracing. Steel tension rods are integrated between key nodes to stabilize the frame, resisting spreading and wind-induced movement. Together, the compression in the timber and tension in the steel create a stiff, lightweight lattice system.
